Coast Chimes — Tim Kline

When I was eight years old, my family vacationed at a lake in northern Wisconsin. There, I found what seemed the most beautiful thing in the world: a piece of driftwood. To my young eyes, this smooth, weathered piece of wood felt like treasure. Perhaps it was a small foreshadowing of the path my life would take. Decades later, I still hunt for driftwood. For more than 35 years, I’ve devoted my time and attention to handcrafting wind chimes—working slowly, thoughtfully, and with respect for natural materials. I live and work on the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia, where forest, shoreline, and ocean meet, and where many of the materials I use—driftwood, beach stones, and cedar—are found. My wind chimes are designed to bring together beauty, gentle sound, and year-round outdoor durability. Each piece is made entirely by hand, using carefully chosen materials and simple, time-tested construction. I believe objects meant to live outdoors should age gracefully, offering quiet pleasure over many years. Every wind chime I make is the result of long familiarity with the materials and a deep appreciation for the places they come from. It’s work I enjoy, and a practice I’m grateful to share. |
